The effect of calcium on the anaerobic digestion treating swine wastewater

چکیده
A series of experiments with 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7 g Ca2+/l using calcium chloride were performed to evaluate the effect of various calcium concentrations on anaerobic digestion of swine wastewater. The addition of 3 g/l gave the best performance. On the other hand, the calcium concentrations of 5–7 g/l had an inhibitory effect on anaerobiosis. The lag phase durations expected in biogas production were 28–31 days with the addition of 0–3 g/l of calcium, and 43–52 days for calcium concentrations of 5 g/l or more. The concentrations of total volatile fatty acids decreased to less than 100 mg/l with calcium concentrations of 3–7 g/l. On the other hand, propionate and i-valerate concentrations remained over 4 and 0.8 g/l, r ©

Iii Symposium on Agricultural and Agroindustrial Waste Management March 12-14, 2013-sao Pedro, Sp, Brazil Effect of Cod/n Ratio on Treatment of Swine Wastewater
The aim of the present work was to evaluate the effect of the carbon/nitrogen (COD/N) ratio on the implementation of technologies treatment of swine wastewater (SW). The results show that the chemical processes are efficient for N removal (up to 99%) contained in SW when COD/N ratio is higher than 10 g/g. However, these processes are inefficient in COD removal (< 33%). COD/N ratio parameter is ...
متن کاملOptimization of struvite crystallization protocol for pretreating the swine wastewater and its impact on subsequent anaerobic biodegradation of pollutants.
Higher contents of NH(4)(+) and SS in wastewater hamper the anaerobic digestion; necessitating its pretreatment to reduce them. This study reveals optimization of struvite/MAP precipitation protocol followed by anaerobic digestion of pretreated swine wastewater for pollutants removal. Levels of different treatments: stirring speeds, 400 and 160 rpm; pH values, 9.0, 9.5, 10.0, 10.5, 11.0 and 11....

Background and Objective: In recent years, management and disposal of municipal solid waste has become a global problem and the most important environmental concern. Anaerobic digestion is a cost-effective solution for treatment of both solid waste and wastewater. The aim of this study was to investigate the positive or negative effects of calcium chloride content in anaerobic digestion process...
متن کاملApplication of anaerobic digestion products of municipal solid food wastes in treating wastewaters
Anaerobic digestion is the breakdown of biodegradable organic material by microorganisms in the absence of oxygen or in an oxygen-starved environment. This technology is superior to the landfilling and also the aerobic composting. The aim of the present study was to examine whether the effluent Volatile Fatty Acids from the anaerobic acidogenesis of the food waste can be used du to its high valu...
متن کاملEvaluation of granular anaerobic ammonium oxidation process for the disposal of pre-treated swine manure
With rising environmental concerns on potable water safety and eutrophication, increased media attention and tighter environmental regulations, managing animal waste in an environmentally responsible and economically feasible way can be a challenge. In this study, the possibility of using granular anammox process for ammonia removal from swine waste treatment water was investigated. A rapid dec...
